St. Georges Technical High School is a public vocational-technical high school in New Castle County, Delaware, northeast of Middletown. It has over 1,000 students in grades 9-12 with a student-teacher ratio of 13 to 1.

It is the newest of four high schools within the New Castle County Vocational-Technical School District, which includes Delcastle Technical High School near Wilmington, Howard High School of Technology in Wilmington, and Hodgson Vo-Tech High School in Glasgow.

As the construction of its formal campus was being completed, St. Georges Technical High School opened its doors to ninth graders in August 2006 at the Marshallton Building at Delcastle Technical High School. The formal campus opened in November 2006. The Class of 2010 was the first graduating class of the school.

Recognition

  • St. Georges Technical High School has been recognized as one of US News and World Report’s top rated schools.
  • Based on the hard work of its teachers and students, Lt. Governor Matt Denn and the Secretary of Education, Mark Murphy, awarded St. Georges the recognition of achievement. St. Georges Technical High School received this honor for maintaining high performance for consecutive years on the Delaware Comprehensive Assessment.
  • St. Georges received National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) certification.
  • Chef Jermaine Williams, a Culinary Arts instructor at St. Georges, was named NCCVT 2016-17 District Teacher of the Year.
  • Justin Null, a school counselor at St. Georges, has been named 2017 High School Counselor of the Year for Delaware.
  • State championship (boys track team) for division II.

St. Georges’ students are members of the following Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs):

  • SkillsUSA -- Every year, St. Georges's students place at the state level, which gains them the opportunity to compete at the national level. The competitions allow students to showcase acquired skills from their career areas.

Students at St. Georges choose a program of study in a career field that provides specific vocational-technical training. Course selection is based on the program of study chosen. There are over a dozen career programs offered at St. Georges, spanning six "clusters":

Business, Communication, and Computers

  • Web and Print Technology

This course prepares students for careers in the web publishing and printing industry with emphasis on pre-press software, imaging, estimating, sales, and graphic design. Students are taught how to design, edit, and publish (launch) documents, images, graphics, sound, and multimedia products online. During the course students learn Adobe Creative Cloud programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and inDesign. Over a three-year period students compile a dynamic portfolio of digital and print projects: logos, business cards, brochures, magazines, and website animations.

  • Information Technology Academy

This course of study prepares future programmers and coders. The curriculum includes fundamentals of computer logic, coding, and programming languages, such as Python, Java, and JavaScript. Students examine computing problems that are culturally relevant and address social and ethical issues while engaging in several in-depth projects to demonstrate the real-world applications of computing. Information Technology Academy provides students with training for computing and software development careers.

Construction

  • Carpentry

This program teaches how to lay out, build, and repair wooden structures. Advanced placement in the Trade Apprenticeship Program is available for qualified graduates through Tech Prep and NCCER Level I.

  • Electrical Trades

Students learn electrical theory, electrical building codes, and how to complete basic residential, commercial, and industrial wiring.

  • Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning

Students complete project work in installing and diagnosing systems related to heating, cooling, and refrigeration.

  • Plumbing

Students learn how to assemble, install, and repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures. Advanced placement in a Trade Apprenticeship Program is available for qualified graduates through Tech Prep and NCCER Level I.

Transportation

  • Auto Technology

Maintain, diagnose, and repair automotive systems necessary for safe and proper operation of vehicles. Successful completion of the course prepares the student for full-time entry-level employment.

Health Services

  • Athletic Healthcare

Athletic Healthcare prepares individuals, under the supervision of a certified athletic trainer, to implement treatment care plans, train patients, conduct treatment interventions, use equipment, and observe and record patient progress.

  • Emergency Medical Services

Training in Emergency Medical Services will prepare graduates to work as Emergency Care Assistants, but it may also be used as a foundation for technical/community college study in Emergency Medical Technology (paramedic) and other Allied Health professions.

  • Health Information Technology

Health Information Technology prepares individuals as Medical Insurance Coding Specialists.

  • Medical Assisting

Perform clinical, laboratory, and medical office procedures in a health care setting, applying scientific St. Georges concepts.

  • Nursing Technology (NT)

The Nursing Technology program is designed to prepare students to develop the physical, social, and emotional characteristics necessary for a successful career in the health care industry.

Public and Consumer Services

  • Culinary Arts

Culinary Arts is a course of study designed to provide students with the opportunity to reach competency in major areas of food preparation.

  • Early Childhood Education

Plan, prepare, and present age-appropriate activities for a preschool setting. Students receive certificates in Training in Early Care & Education I & II upon graduation. Early Childhood Education students are able to earn college credit through Delaware Technical Community College along with Tech Prep Agreements with area colleges.

Science, Energy & Drafting Technologies

  • Biotechnology

The Biotechnology career program provides students with the opportunity to be challenged by, and to master, the science and math skills required for acceptance into bioscience programs at competitive post-secondary educational programs. Students will have opportunities to master advanced content in biology and chemistry and to master basic laboratory techniques and procedures, as well as opportunities to maintain and operate the more common instruments and equipment used in a biotechnology laboratory.

  • Technical Drafting

Technical Drafting is designed to develop the skills for one or more engineering drawing specialties. Students start with basic drafting procedures and techniques coupled with a general exploration of the field. Specialization in areas such as architectural drafting, landscape architecture, piping schematics, machine design and other disciplines are encouraged in the third year. This program prepares for entry-level work and/or post-secondary training.
