A major prophet is a book in the Major Prophets section of the Christian Old Testament in the Bible. The term "major" refers to their length, not their importance.
The books in order of their occurrence in Christian Bibles is:
- Isaiah
- Books of Jeremiah:
- Book of Jeremiah
- Book of Lamentations (in the Ketuvim (Writings) section of the Tanakh)
- Book of Baruch (not in Protestant Bibles)
- Letter of Jeremiah (Chapter 6 of Baruch in most Catholic Bibles, its own book in Orthodox Bibles)
- Book of Ezekiel
- Book of Daniel (in the Ketuvim of the Tanakh).
The Hebrew Bible does not group these books together and does not include the deuterocanonical/apocryphal Book of Baruch. The closest analogous grouping in the Hebrew Bible is the Nevi'im (Prophets).
