The She-Camel of God was a miraculous female camel sent by God to the people of Thamud, in Arabia, when they demanded their prophet Saleh or Sahlay to ask God for a miracle. The narrative and story of the she-camel is recorded in the Qur'an.
Qur'anic mention
Amongst the many narrations in the Qur'an, one historical story deals with the people of Thamud, who lived after the people of Ê¿Äd in ancient Arabia. As the people of the community were heavily indulgent in idolatry, God sent the prophet and seer Saleh to warn them of the impending doom they would face if they did not mend their fraudulent ways.
Johannes Damascenus
In chapter 101 of his Book "Concerning Heresy" (Perì hairéseÅn) John of Damascus described the Heresy of the Ishmaelites (Islam). There he mentions a script (graphè) named "Camel of God" (kamélos tou Theou). This description contains many elements not found in the Koran.
